Pattaya, Thailand - Two time Olympian Keerati Bualong snatched gold in a stellar performance at the prestigious 2023 ILCA 7 Masters World Championship held at the Royal Varuna Yacht Club on Pratamnak Hill in Pattaya, Thailand.

The Thai turned 30 years of age in December, making him eligible just in time to enter the regatta for the first time, participants limited to those 30 years of age and older. Sailing in the Apprentice division for those aged 30 to 44, Bualong managed to finish first in all but one of eleven races he sailed. After representing Thailand at London 2012 and Rio 2016, he had turned to coaching with the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand, his comeback in a range of sailing conditions impressive. 

“I’m glad to be back racing again after two years,” he said. “It’s nice to be back competing. It’s more fun now.”

The UAE’s Adil Khalid won silver in the Apprentice fleet, a coveted step up from last year’s event in Mexico. Italy’s Pietro Corbucci took bronze.

In the Master division for those aged 45-54, Greece’s Adonis Bougiouris matched Keerati’s record, with first places finishes in all but one race. Christoph Bottini of Australia and Peter Hurley of the USA took silver and bronze respectively. 

In the Grand Master division for those aged 55-64, the undisputed champion was Australia’s Brett Beyer. Jan Scholten of Australia and Andrew Holdsworth of the USA came in second and third overall in the 35-man fleet, the largest division at the world championship.

In the Great Grand Master division for those aged 65 and older, defending champion Tim Law of the UK confirmed his mastery in the ILCA dinghy, confidently securing gold. Australians Stephen Gunther and Jeff Loosemore, both of whom had also raced a week earlier in the smaller ILCA 6 rig, won silver and bronze. 

Tim Law, a legend in ILCA masters sailing circles, was effusive with praise at the event’s closing. “Your country is amazing. Your yacht club is amazing,” he said. With 48 years in the fleet, he emphasized how impressed he was, lauding the food, the race management, the host venue staff, and the organization of the event.

The Royal Varuna Yacht Club went to great effort to ensure a most memorable stay for all sailors and their supporters in both the ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 events held in February. On the water, the RVYC joined forces with YRAT and the Royal Thai Navy to deliver exceptional race management, with racing cancelled only one day for lack of wind during the 12 days scheduled through the month for the two events. Among special experiences to promote Thailand and things Thai were Thai tasting events, Thai treats, a visit to the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary, Thai cooking classes, a performance by the Joe Louis Traditional Thai Puppetry Theatre, fire dancers, and massage on site.

Principal sponsor Idemitsu is a long-term partner to the Royal Varuna Yacht Club, its contribution part of its CSR program. The Singha Corporation joined as co-sponsor, continuing a long-standing relationship that stretches back to the 1970s. Supporting sponsors include Bangkok Hospital Pattaya which provided on site emergency services, Coca-Cola, Element Six Evolution, The Pizza Company, Bonchon, and UF.

Organizing partners were the Royal Varuna Yacht Club, the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand and the ILCA. Strategic partners included Pattaya City, the Sports Authority of Thailand, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

“ท็อป” จ.ท.กีรติ บัวลง นักแล่นใบโอลิมปิกไทย 2 สมัย ประกาศศักดาคว้าแชมป์ครั้งแรก ในการแข่งเรือใบชิงแชมป์โลก 2023 รายการ  “ไอแอลซีเอ 7 มาสเตอร์เวิลด์ แชมเปี้ยนชิพ 2023” แบบไม่มีพลิกโผในรุ่นแอพเพนทิส

การแข่งเรือใบชิงแชมป์โลก 2023 รายการ  “ไอแอลซีเอ 7 มาสเตอร์เวิลด์ แชมเปี้ยนชิพ 2023” ที่สโมสรราชณวรุณ ในพระบรมราชูปถัมภ์ เขาพระตำหนัก พัทยา ได้ปิดฉากการแข่งขันแล้วโดยมีการแข่งขัน 4 ประเภท ได้แก่ รุ่นแอพเพนทิส (Apprentice), รุ่นมาสเตอร์ (Master), รุ่นแกรนด์ มาสเตอร์ (Grand Master), รุ่นเกรท แกรนด์ มาสเตอร์ (Great Grand Master) แข่งขันทั้งหมด 12 เที่ยว

ในรุ่นแอพเพลนทิส อายุ 30 - 44 ปี “ท็อป” จ.ท.กีรติ บัวลง  นักแล่นใบโอลิมปิกไทย 2 สมัย สามารถคว้าเหรียญทองจากการทำผลงานดีเยี่ยมนำมาตลอด ทุกเที่ยวที่ลงแข่ง

สำหรับ กีรติ เพิ่งมีอายุครบ 30 ปี เมื่อเดือนธันวาคมที่ผ่านมา ซึ่งเข้าเกณฑ์แข่งรายการ มาสเตอร์เวิลด์ รายการนี้เป็นครั้งแรก กีรติ แข่งในรุ่นแอพเพลนทิส สำหรับผู้มีอายุ 30 - 44 ปี ทำผลงานเข้าที่หนึ่งถึง 10 เที่ยว ในการนับคะแนนแข่ง 11 เที่ยว 

หลังจากที่จบการแข่งโอลิมปิก ที่ลอนดอน ในปี 2012 และ ริโอ ในปี 2016 กีรติได้ผันตัวเองมาเป็นโค้ช ในสังกัดสมาคมแข่งเรือใบแห่งประเทศไทย ในพระบรมราชูปถัมภ์ การกลับเข้ามาแข่งอีกครั้งในสภาพลมที่หลากหลายและท้าทาย เขาสามารถทำผลงานได้เป็นที่ประทับใจสำหรับการแข่งเรือใบชิงแชมป์โลก 2023 รายการนี้

“ท็อป” จ.ท.กีรติ บัวลง เปิดเผยว่า “ผมดีใจที่ได้กลับมาแข่งอีกครั้งหลังจากหยุดเล่นกีฬาเรือใบมาสองปี และผมรู้สึกสนุกมากขึ้นในการแข่งครั้งนี้ ดีใจมากครับที่ลงแข่งครั้งแรกก็สามารถคว้าแชมป์มาครอง” 

ในรุ่นแอพเพลนทิส อายุ 30 - 44 ปี อาดิล คาลิด นักแล่นใบจาก สหรัฐอาหรับเอมิเรตส์ ได้ที่ 2 ครองเหรียญเงิน ซึ่งเป็นผลงานที่ดีขึ้น จากการแข่งปีก่อนหน้านี้ ที่ประเทศเม็กซิโก ในขณะที่นักแล่นใบจากอิตาลี พิเอโตร คอร์บูชิ รั้งที่สามเก็บเหรียญทองแดงกลับบ้าน

ในรุ่นมาสเตอร์ สำหรับนักแข่งอายุ 45 - 54 ปี นักแล่นใบจากประเทศกรีซ อาโดนิส บูจิโอริส ทำผลงานได้เทียบเท่า กีรติ โดยการเข้าเส้นชัยที่หนึ่ง 10 เที่ยว จากการนับคะแนนแข่งรวมทั้งสิ้น 11 เที่ยว โดยมี คริสทอพ บอทินี จากออสเตรเลีย และ ปีเตอร์ เฮอรี่ จากสหรัฐอเมริกา จบการแข่งขันด้วยเหรียญเงิน และเหรีนญทองแดง ตามลำดับ ด้าน นักกีฬาไทย คริสเตียน เวด์แมนด์ อยู่ที่ 17

ส่วนรุ่นเกรท แกรนด์ มาสเตอร์ อายุ 65 ปีขึ้นไป ทิม ลอว์ จากสหราชอาณาจักร สามารถรักษาตำแหน่งแชมเปี้ยน คว้าเหรียญทองไปครองได้เป็นผลสำเร็จ โดยมี 2 นักกีฬา จากออสเตรเลีย ที่ผ่านการแข่งขัน ไอแอล ซี เอ 6 คือ สตีเฟ่น กุนเธอร์ ได้เหรียญเงิน และเจฟ ลูสมอร์ ได้เหรียญทองแดง 

ทิม ลอว์ นักแข่งอายุเกิน 75 ปี อยู่ในกลุ่ม เลเจนด์ (Legend) ได้แสดงความชื่นชมการแข่งขันในปีนี้ โดยกล่าวว่า “สำหรับรายการนี้ จัดได้ดีมากๆ ประเทศของคุณ และสโมสรฯของคุณ มันยอดเยี่ยมมาก” 

“ด้วยประสบการณ์แข่งถึง 48 ปี ผมมีความประทับใจในอาหาร, การจัดการแข่งขัน, สถานที่จัดการแข่งขัน และการบริหารจัดการงานแข่งขันในปีนี้”

ขณะที่ นักกีฬาไทยที่เข้าแข่งขัน ในรุ่นเกรท แกรนด์ มาสเตอร์ มี 4 คน ผลปรากฏว่า มาเซล ดับเบิลแมน ได้ที่ 18, ริชาร์ด ไวน์ ได้ที่ 19, ระดับ กาญจนวณิชย์ ได้ที่ 20, วิลล์ แฮมิลตัน ได้ที่ 22

ในรุ่นแกรนด์ มาสเตอร์ อายุ 55-64 ปี ซึ่งมีนักแล่นใบมากที่สุดในงานนี้ มี เบรท เบเยอร์จากออสเตรเลีย ได้แชมป์ ที่ 2 แจน โซลเทน จากออสเตรเลีย ที่ 3 แอนดรูว์ โฮลด์สเวิร์ธ จากสหรัฐอเมริกา

สำหรับนักกีฬาไทย ในรุ่นนี้ ที่ทำผลงานได้ดีที่สุด ได้แก่ นาวาโท วีรสิฏฐ์ พวงนาค อดีตทีมชาติ ได้ที่ 12 ส่วนคนอื่นๆ มอร์เทน จาคอบเซน ได้ที่ 14, พ.จ.อ. จุลพงษ์ จันทร์ยิ้ม อดีตทีมชาติ คุณพ่อของ “แบม” กมลวรรณ จันทร์ยิ้ม ทีมชาติ ได้ที่ 15, มาร์ค เชลิสต์เชฟฟ์ ได้ที่ 20, สก็อต ดันแคนสัน ได้ที่ 25, เควิน วิทคลาฟท์ ได้ที่ 26, แฟรงค์ ทิวเวน ได้ที่ 29 และ นีล แซมเปิล ได้ที่ 37

สำหรับการแข่งขันรายการนี้ จัดขึ้นจากความร่วมมือของสโมสรราชณวรุณฯ, สมาคมแข่งเรือใบแห่งประเทศไทย ในพระบรมราชูปถัมภ์ และสมาพันธ์เรือใบเลเซอร์นานาชาติ ด้วยความสนับสนุนจากเมืองพัทยา, การกีฬาแห่งประเทศไทยและการท่องเที่ยวแห่งประเทศไทย โดยทางสโมสรราชวรุณฯ ได้ทุ่มเทอย่างเต็มที่ เพื่อให้นักกีฬาและผู้ติดตามทุกคน ทั้งในงาน ไอแอลซีเอ 6 และ ไอแอลซีเอ 7 มีความประทับใจตลอดการแข่งขัน สโมสรฯ ได้ร่วมมืออย่างใกล้ชิดกับ สมาคมแข่งเรือใบแห่งประเทศไทย และกองทัพเรือ เพื่อการจัดการแข่งด้วยมาตรฐานโอลิมปิก โดยตลอดการแข่งขัน ทั้งสองประเภทเรือ มีการยกเลิกการแข่งขันเพียงวันเดียว เนื่องจากสภาพลมไม่เอื้ออำนวย นอกจากนี้ยังได้นำเสนอวัฒนธรรมผ่านอาหารไทย ขนมไทย การเยี่ยมชมศูนย์อนุรักษ์ช้างไทย การเรียนทำอาหารไทย การแสดงหุ่นละครเล็ก ระบำไฟ และการนวดแผนไทยอีกด้วย
